1. Fountain Pens
As a designer, I need to sketch, write, and plan designs and concepts. I have noticed that using manufactured disposable pens results in simply too much waste! As designers, it is essential to develop designs that are mindful of the planet's growing environmental problems; therefore, why should our design process be any different?
Hence, I recommend fountain pens. Fountain pens are a great alternative to disposable felt pens and drafting pens. Fountain pens allow you to refill the body of the pen with whatever ink you need for your design purposes. Not only are fountain pens beautifully designed writing tools, but the metal nibs are far more durable than the typical disposable felt pen, especially finer line weights. The refill mechanism makes it environmentally and economically friendly, and a great addition to a designer's toolbox.

Reccomended Pens
Some of the best pens I used for design.
Lamy Safari Fountain Pen
PILOT Custom 823
The Pilot Custom 823 is one of the best pens I have ever owned. As someone who frequently draws and writes, this high-capacity vacuum fill pen is always with me. I do consider this an investment piece. The classic style and beautiful Japanese craftsmanship are always a conversation point with clients.
This German brand is a Bauhaus-inspired fountain pen, a staple in my toolbox as one of my best drafting/ drawing pens. A precise steel nib produces uniform lines, enabling the creation of accurate technical drawings. This fountain is an affordable option that will last a lifetime.
